Community Bookshelves

There are 16 Community Bookshelves in our region!  Thank you to Rotary Club of Truckee and Truckee Sunrise Rotary for building and donating 12 of the shelves and thank you to the host sites for supporting literacy!  The Community Bookshelves are a free resource of books for the public and are located throughout the region with the goal to increase the amount and variety of books accessible by children.  The directions for using the Community Bookshelves are, "Take a Book, Leave a Book, or Do Both!".  If you have extra books that you would like to donate, you can put them on one of the Community Bookshelves (as long as there is space!).

The Challenge

Reading proficiency by third grade is the most important predictor of high school graduation and career success. Yet every year, more than 80 percent of low-income children nationwide miss this crucial milestone.

The goal of Tahoe Truckee Reads is to ensure that all children in our community are reading proficiently by the end of third grade. We want our children to have the tools they need to be successful in life.
