Our Approach

Schools cannot succeed alone

The academic success of children requires engaged communities mobilized to remove barriers, expand opportunities, and assist parents to serve as full partners in the success of their children. Tahoe Truckee Reads is mobilizing the community to take action around three key pillars of reading success:

  • School Readiness
  • School Attendance
  • Summer Learning Loss

Collective Action = Collective Success

We are employing a collective impact approach . Collective impact is a way of working that forges deep and interdependent partnerships to create community driven solutions and results. Tahoe Truckee Reads is providing the infrastructure to support the partners and their shared vision for change. Several community organizations and individuals are working together toward this common goal.

The Challenge

Reading proficiency by third grade is the most important predictor of high school graduation and career success. Yet every year, more than 80 percent of low-income children nationwide miss this crucial milestone.

The goal of Tahoe Truckee Reads is to ensure that all children in our community are reading proficiently by the end of third grade. We want our children to have the tools they need to be successful in life.
